NOW Wants All Women To March In Lock-Step

The XX Factor : Wow, NOW
Can some other women’s group please speak up to say that if Kennedy has good reason to think that Obama would be the best president for the country, and a damn fine president for women, then supporting him is A-OK with them?

Unless you count my alter-egos, I don’t really qualify as a “women’s group”, but I’ll go on record as saying that it’s as stupid to vote for Hillary Clinton solely because she’s female as it would be to vote for Barack Obama solely because he’s black.

Further, I’m not afraid to say that I don’t intend to vote for Clinton in the primary here in Virginia. I don’t trust her to not put her own interests first and I think she’s divisive. I don’t believe that, as president, she’d be able to get done the things that really need doing because there are too many people who really dislike her. It’s entirely possible that some people dislike her mainly because she’s a “strong woman” — and if that’s the case, it just reflects badly on those people — but ultimately it doesn’t really matter why people don’t like her. All that matters is whether she could build enough goodwill in congress to get things done and I don’t think she could.

  1. You’ve said just what I say about Hillary Clinton. I don’t entirely disagree with her ideas, but I just think the country needs to get away from the divisiveness, and another Clinton in office just sets us up for more hatred and Jeb Bush being elected 4-8 years from now.

I did like Obama, but well before the election I just wanted to see him with more federal experience under his belt. And now I’m a bit angered by his pandering to Reaganites and what I think may be too conciliatory an attitude for what we need now. Reaching across the aisle is one thing. Reaching across and bending over is another. Add to that the fact I really didn’t like his vote on the bankruptcy bills a couple years ago, and I just don’t think he is my candidate.

My choice was Bill Richardson. The guy had tons of experience (from diplomat to Department of Energy head, etc.), could whip his New Mexico legislature at its own game (he wrote an executive order to allow state employees in the executive offices to have spousal benefits regardless of their gender when the legislature shot down a bill giving bennies to everyone), and could play the political game when needed. It was his finagling that had North Korea playing fair until Bush screwed the pooch by not continuing our side of the bargain he had made.

But Richardson is out of the running now. My second choice is Edwards, but it looks more and more likely Clinton or Obama will be the nominee. It’s disappointing, because I think we could have had more (perhaps with Obama as Vice Prez and then a run of his own). Still, I will vote for either of them and won’t be holding my nose doing it since I do agree with much of what they espouse. (And, as with any politician, I’ll be watching afterward to see if they do what they say…. oy.)

  3. My thing is that I don’t really understand why they don’t like Hillary so much. Here in SC I come accross loads of people who “can’t stand” Hillary but when asked why they say she is simply unlikable or that she is cold. I suppose it isn’t that important to understand why she is hated by so many–I just don’t get it.
Regardless, I didn’t vote for her in the primaries. If so many people dislike her, I’d rather have a candidate that has a higher chance of winning.

  5. Anybody who wasn’t able to see through obvious misinformation and lies during the Iraq debate and voted for the war is ruled out to be President. IMHO. If I was American I guess I would have to cast my vote for Obama, largely based on that criterion.

  7. I’m with you, Bernie. And it’s really nice to “see you”, by the way!
