Today they disconnected my IVs and I’m now getting all my pain control through pills — extended release morphine in the am and pm with fast-acting morphine for breakthrough pain. It’s working well. From what I hear from other people, a lot of people have problems with morphine. I’m lucky it works for me.

I’ve had a couple episodes of major abscess drainage with a huge big mess each time. My poor nurses! The last time, the nurse was probably in here for an hour cleaning me, the floor, the bedding, etc. Blech. They seem to have come up with a good system for packing the wound now, though, so… hopefully no more big surprises.

At any rate… it’s quite wonderful to not be attached to lines of any sort anymore. Assuming the abscess drainage continues to progress, they’re still talking about letting me out of here on Tuesday — possibly with a visiting nurse to monitor things.

I’ve one of the good nurses tonight. Yay! Unlike last night. THAT guy probably knows what he’s doing, but he’s often slow to answer the call light and is very disorganized. It drives me a little crazy. Not that I’m a control freak or anything. ;-)

Hey — *I* would like to be your “visiting nurse,” thank you very much! But I am VERY pleased that you are disconnected (heh — haven’t I been telling you that for years… :) ) and hopefully you will be home very soon.

  2. Hi Rebecca:

Getting disconnected is a good thing! So is getting all the junk out of the abscess–much better than if it stays inside. I second the comment about yoghurt if you are on antibiotics; kefir is good too. (It’s about all I’ve been having lately with the temperature where it has been; you are at least missing some abominable weather. Small f–ing consolation I know.) Let me know if we can bring you any thing you are coveting. With love as always.

Valerie, I would LOVE to have you as my visiting nurse! I don’t suppose you’d like a 2 or 3 week “vacation” to Virginia? We’d fly you out here!

Barb, thanks for the offer. There’s nothing I can think of that I’m especially craving right now. Kefir does sound especially good, though, and I’ll have to get Mark to stock up on some. I had some of the yogurt they offer on the room service menu and it was awful. I haven’t had “big brand” yogurt in years and now I remember why. It’s soooooo sweet. Blech! It doesn’t even taste like yogurt!

  5. Excellent new! And I love the hair.

  6. Glad to *see* and read that you are unhooked!
